On May 2, the first AI Codes of Practice under the EU AI Act will be introduced, offering essential guidance for providers of general-purpose AI models, including those with systemic risks. These codes, developed by the AI Office, outline key compliance requirements, including transparency, risk assessment and governance strategies.

On August 2, 2025, the EU AI Act’s core provisions take effect, imposing detailed obligations on providers of general-purpose AI models – such as chatbots, virtual assistants and recommendation systems. Requirements include transparency, human oversight and disclosure of key system details. This date also marks the start of penalty enforcement, with noncompliance carrying significant fines and reputational risks, regardless of your location. This session will provide actionable guidance to help businesses align their AI systems with the requirements of the AI Act and navigate this critical compliance deadline.

This session in our signature AI Talks series will be a special edition for general counsels of VC funds.
