AI Talks: Understanding the EU AI Act – What It Means for Companies Worldwide

April 30, 2025

Event summary

The European Union’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) Act, which entered into force on August 1, 2024, is poised to become the world’s first comprehensive AI regulation, setting a global benchmark for how AI systems are developed, deployed and used ethically.

With its far-reaching extraterritorial effect, the EU AI Act doesn’t just apply to businesses based in the EU. Companies outside the EU that develop, provide or use AI systems targeting EU users or markets also must comply with these groundbreaking requirements.

Whether you’re a US-based business, a global enterprise or a fast-growing tech startup, understanding the EU AI Act is critical to ensuring compliance, mitigating risk and staying ahead in the rapidly evolving AI regulatory landscape.

Join Cooley’s cyber/data/privacy team for a three-part webinar series designed to help founders, general counsel, legal teams and compliance professionals navigate the implications of the EU AI Act. Each session will provide actionable insights on the law’s requirements and key compliance deadlines starting in 2025.

Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions. Don’t miss this chance to stay informed about a regulation that will shape the future of AI – wherever your company operates.

Understanding the AI Codes of Practice – Obligations Starting May 2, 2025

9:00 am PDT / 12:00 pm EDT / 5:00 pm BST / 6:00 pm CEST

On May 2, the first AI Codes of Practice under the EU AI Act will be introduced, offering essential guidance for providers of general-purpose AI models, including those with systemic risks. These codes, developed by the AI Office, outline key compliance requirements, including transparency, risk assessment and governance strategies.

The obligations apply globally – if your AI systems are accessible or used in the EU, compliance is critical to managing risk and preserving market access. This session will equip you with practical insights to align your AI programs with the new standards, regardless of your position in the AI value chain.
