Cooley opened its London office in January 2015 and it was a momentous achievement for the firm. Cooley's London office has worked hard to build on the exceptional success of the firm in the US. In just nine months our new London office has grown to more than 100 people and worked on significant domestic and international litigation and business matters. Our London-based litigators have one of the most sought after complex commercial litigation teams in the UK, handling domestic and cross-border litigation, international arbitration, insurance/re-insurance and regulatory matters.
Training at Cooley

Being part of a smaller trainee cohort often leads to a higher degree of hands-on involvement. Cooley helps build careers through formal and informal mentoring programs that emphasise superlative legal skills, real world problem-solving and the development of internal and external business relationships. Cooley trainees have an extensive support network that includes an assigned supervisor, a trainee buddy in the year above, a partner mentor, the legal talent team and the trainee principal, all of whom are there to help and encourage progress and growth.
The two-year training programme is divided into four seats of six months each with trainees being supervised by and learning from both partners and more senior associates. Trainees rotate through some of the firm's contentious and non-contentious specialisms in business, regulatory and litigation.
Supplementing your hands-on learning and development will be the Professional Skills Course and our tailored trainee training programme. The programme offers regular sessions designed to increase your technical skills and knowledge for the work Cooley does. It will also provide opportunities to develop your finance, business development and commercial understanding.
