Patrick Lauppe
About Patrick
Patrick is an accomplished intellectual property litigator whose practice focuses on software and electronics – including artificial intelligence, light detection and ranging (LiDAR), augmented and virtual reality, semiconductor chips, displays, video coding, microelectronics and wireless technology.
Patrick is known for “digging in” to the sophisticated technology at issue in his cases. Having studied neural networks and co-designed a cryptocurrency during law school, he possesses firsthand knowledge of the technologies at the center of today’s most consequential patent cases. He pairs this with a deep passion for teaching and clarifying complicated concepts using his proven skills for crafting colorful demonstratives, clear arguments and compelling presentations.
Patrick has extensive experience in US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) proceedings, district court cases and International Trade Commission (ITC) investigations. Patrick has provided oral argument in several proceedings before the USPTO, representing both patent owners and patent challengers, including inter partes review proceedings successfully invalidating all challenged patent claims related to microelectromechanical sensors. Patrick also has substantial experience in district court, including an oral argument related to dispositive motions in a case where all patent claims asserted against his augmented reality gaming client were found invalid. At the ITC, Patrick has represented both complainants and respondents related to LiDAR, LCD displays and consumer electronics.
Patrick served as a patent law clerk for Judge Beth Labson Freeman of the US District Court for the Northern District of California. He received his JD from Yale Law School in 2018 and earned his undergraduate degree from Harvard University, graduating Phi Beta Kappa in 2013.
