Three Cooley Partners Recognized on Daily Journal’s Top IP Lawyers List

Palo Alto and Los Angeles – May 19, 2023 – Cooley partners Heidi Keefe, Bobby Ghajar and Mika Reiner Mayer have been recognized on Daily Journal’s 2023 Top Intellectual Property Lawyers list, an annual roundup of the top lawyers practicing IP and patent litigation in California. Since 2012, the Daily Journal has recognized the trio nearly 30 times in total.

Keefe, based in Palo Alto and a member of Cooley’s board of directors, was noted for handling more than 40 appeals before the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. She was lauded as a lawyer who can both stand up in court and talk to a jury and get into the technical weeds. The Daily Journal also highlighted her rare patent infringement summary judgment win on behalf of Meta.

Ghajar, based in Los Angeles, was noted for his work in generative artificial intelligence and its potential protectability under copyright laws. The Daily Journal recognized his team’s rare victory at the pleading stage on behalf of Meta regarding its new corporate logo. It also highlighted his win of $6.5 million in damages on behalf of Emerson Radio in a trademark infringement case against a company selling air conditioning products under the similar name Emerson Quiet Kool.

Mayer, also based in Palo Alto, was noted for handling more IP due diligence reviews in connection with debt financing, licensing agreements and partnerships, acquisitions, and public offerings than any other lawyer in the US. The Daily Journal also highlighted her work on Oyster Point Pharma’s sale to Viatris for $415 million and Myovant Sciences’ $1.7 billion acquisition by Sumitomo Pharma.
