Law360 Recognizes Cooley as Life Sciences Practice Group of the Year

March 3, 2023

Palo Alto – March 3, 2023 – Cooley’s life sciences practice has been named one of Law360’s Practice Groups of the Year based in part on representation of Arena Pharmaceuticals in its sale to Pfizer and Turning Point Therapeutics in its sale to Bristol Myers Squibb.

“The depth and extent of the practice itself is unlike any other firm,” said Christian Plaza, vice chair of Cooley’s life sciences practice group. “Life sciences companies use a lot of our resources for projects, such as raising capital through public and private financing, finding liquidity for mergers & acquisitions or entering into strategic collaborations with pharmaceutical companies. We provide all the pieces that are critical to our life sciences clients.”

Law360’s Practice Group of the Year awards honor the law firms behind the major deals and litigation wins that resonated throughout the legal industry in the past year. Winning firms rose to the top of nearly 900 submissions.

Cooley is the top law firm for emerging and mature life sciences and healthcare companies, investors and all those supporting the industry, providing counsel to 1,900+ public and private life sciences and healthcare company clients worldwide, including nearly 50% of the Nasdaq Biotechnology Index. Named 2022 Licensing & Collaboration Firm of the Year by LMG Life Sciences, the firm counsels on all aspects of life sciences technologies for growing startups and established public companies. Cooley has been the #1 venture capital law firm for biotech and pharma venture financings for the last decade and is the #1 firm for issuer-side life sciences initial public offerings – a title held since 2000. Life sciences chair Kay Chandler and vice chair Christian Plaza spoke with The Recorder about Cooley’s long-established leadership in the sector.
