New York – July 27, 2018 – Cooley advised Cheddar on its acquisition of MTV Networks on Campus, which broadcasts television and internet channels for college students, from Viacom. Cooley partner Jeffrey Laretto led the team advising Cheddar.
In a comment made to the Wall Street Journal, Cheddar’s founder and CEO, Jon Steinberg, said the company now has “the ability to reach what is an elusive audience of young people.”
According to Cheddar, it will use the platform to launch a live news network called CheddarU, featuring content from its flagship business news channels as well as original sponsored content. The network reaches 600 college campuses across the US.
Cheddar is a leading post-cable networks company. Its programming is available on Sling TV, Hulu, YouTube TV, Snapchat, Amazon, Twitter, Facebook and 60% of smart TVs in the US.
