About Zhipeng

Zhipeng focuses his practice on patent counseling and prosecution in life sciences and chemical sciences. He provides services on patent drafting, prosecution, prior art search, patentability and patent landscape assessments, and freedom to operate analysis. Zhipeng has worked in a range of technical areas, including small-molecule pharmaceuticals, polypeptides, antibody drug conjugates, clean energy and medical devices. His clients include biotech startups, midsize chemical and biotechnology companies, and large pharmaceutical companies.

Before joining Cooley, Zhipeng worked as a patent agent at an elite global intellectual property law firm, drafting and prosecuting patent applications on pharmaceuticals, biotechnologies and medical devices. 

Zhipeng gained extensive research experience in the fields of organic chemistry, synthetic method development, analytical chemistry and small-molecule pharmaceuticals while conducting his doctoral research at the University of Pennsylvania. He is the author of 21 publications in a variety of peer-reviewed journals. During graduate school, Zhipeng also was a fellow at the Penn Center for Innovation, where he conducted patentability and marketing assessments of technologies invented by Penn researchers. In law school, he served as a staff editor of the AIPLA (American Intellectual Property Law Association) Quarterly Journal.
