About Scott

Dr. Scott Shaw focuses his practice on patent prosecution, patent counseling, and diligence for chemistry and life science clients. He has experience in helping clients protect small molecule pharmaceuticals throughout their development cycle, from patentability analysis for early stage startups to creative life cycle management for mature drugs.

Scott leverages his PhD in chemistry to provide insight on patents related to organic chemistry, pharmaceuticals, cancer, medical imaging, drug delivery and nanotechnology. His well-rounded chemistry and biochemistry training allows him to effectively assist clients with the preparation and prosecution of U.S. and international patents at the interface of scientific disciplines.

Scott’s doctoral research involved the development of small-molecule probes and nanoparticles for imaging and therapy of human diseases such as cancer. His published topics include supramolecular pseudorotaxanes with integrin targeting peptides and unique fluorescent or photothermal properties. He also created a non-covalent system for functionalizing drug-loaded liposomes or other nanostructures (e.g. gold nanoparticles, carbon nanotubes, quantum dots) with imaging and targeting groups.

Scott has experience working with a diverse range of clients, including individual inventors, small biotechnology startups, university professors and large chemistry companies.
