About RJ

RJ is a litigator who focuses on complex commercial disputes, government investigations and appellate practice. Before joining Cooley, RJ served as a law clerk for Chief Judge Richard Seeborg of the US District Court for the Northern District of California. He also clerked for Chief Judge Debra Ann Livingston of the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.

In law school, RJ was the first student fellow for the Deborah L. Rhode Center on the Legal Profession, where he helped research ways to streamline court filings for unrepresented litigants and advocated for regulatory reform around unauthorized practice of law restrictions. He also co-directed the Housing Pro Bono Project, and he was part of a two-person team that won Best Brief in the Kirkwood Moot Court competition. At the Stanford Supreme Court Litigation Clinic, he helped two different petitioners win unanimous rulings at the US Supreme Court.

Earlier in his career, RJ was a journalist, working as the Access to Justice senior reporter at Law360 and as a section editor at The Myanmar Times in Yangon, Myanmar.
