About Rebecca

Rebecca handles a broad range of complex commercial litigation matters, including class action and multidistrict litigations, cyber/data privacy litigation, consumer protection actions, and commercial contract disputes. She has successfully defended corporations in actions alleging unfair competition, false advertising and misappropriation of trade secrets.

Rebecca also has successfully litigated high-impact pro bono cases, and she serves on the board of The Barbara McDowell and Gerald S. Hartman Foundation, which promotes systemic-impact litigation.

Prior to joining Cooley, Rebecca was an associate at White & Case in its Los Angeles office.

While at the University of Southern California Gould School of Law, Rebecca was executive senior editor for the Southern California Interdisciplinary Law Journal. She also served as an extern for Judge Charles R. Breyer of the US District Court for the Northern District of California. At Stanford University, Rebecca was a dean’s scholar, as well as a pitcher for the women’s softball team and a two-time NCAA Academic All-American.

Rebecca’s representative matters include:

  • Defending major technology and other companies against cutting-edge commercial and class action litigation, including alleged violations of privacy laws, antitrust statutes, employment laws, the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act, and various consumer protection laws
  • Representing and advising technology and social media companies on topics including Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, wiretapping, consumer protection, and enforcement of online terms of service
  • Representing companies in appellate litigation raising novel issues of state and federal law, including statutory and constitutional law
  • Defending and bringing affirmative disputes alleging state and federal claims on behalf of companies in industries ranging from technology, financial, data and cryptocurrency to consumer products, healthcare, education, and sports and entertainment
  • Defending companies in bet-the-company litigations and novel challenges to companies and organizations’ business models
  • Conducting high-stakes internal investigations and advising on issues of risk management
  • Defending pharmaceutical patent and antitrust cases, including cases alleging claims under the Hatch-Waxman Act and Sherman Act
  • Engaging in high-impact pro bono litigation, including actions securing protections for immigrants’ rights, voting rights, and women’s rights
