About Paul

Paul focuses his practice on a variety of financial restructuring transactions, representing debtors, official committees of unsecured creditors, individual creditors, purchasers of assets, trustees, and others in complex Chapter 11 bankruptcies, out-of-court workouts, and related transactions. Paul also frequently provides practical perspective and strategic advice to established public and private companies, as well as early-stage, high-growth companies, in all aspects of proactively navigating contingency planning and risk management. His experience ranges across a wide array of industries, including healthcare, life sciences, technology, telecommunications, retail, energy, financial services, and sports and entertainment.

Prior to joining Cooley, Paul was an associate at Milbank, where his practice focused primarily on representing ad hoc groups, debtors, and official committees of unsecured creditors in bankruptcy-related proceedings and transactions.

Paul received his JD, graduating cum laude, from the Georgetown University Law Center, where he was the mentoring and notes editor for the Georgetown Journal of Legal Ethics, as well as a member of the moot court team. He received his bachelor’s degree, with distinction, from the University of Michigan, where he was a James B. Angell Scholar.

Paul's noteworthy representations include:

  • Representing official committees of unsecured creditors in large-scale Chapter 11 cases, including in LTL Management (Johnson & Johnson), Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals, JCPenney, Amsterdam House Continuing Care Retirement Community (The Harborside), Lord & Taylor, Fusion Connect, Destination Maternity, and M&G Chemicals.
  • Representing debtors in complex bankruptcy proceedings, including, among others, Packable, Enjoy Technologies, DeCurtis, Liftopia, Charlotte Russe and Remington Outdoor Company.
  • Representing trustees in Health Diagnostic Laboratory, Fusion Connect and Miami Metals.
  • Representing ad hoc groups of creditors and individual creditors, including in Silicon Valley Bank, FTX, Celsius, 4D Factory, Knotel, AC Moore, Windstream, FULLBEAUTY Brands, Peabody Energy, Global A&T Electronics, 21st Century Oncology and Energy XXI.
  • Representing the Pac-12 Conference on various governance and litigation matters.
