About Nathaniel
Nate focuses his practice on data privacy and emerging technologies, advising clients on US and international regulatory compliance and government investigations. He also represents clients in high-stakes disputes involving privacy and cybersecurity issues. Nate is an International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) Fellow of Information Privacy (FIP), a Certified Information Privacy Professional for the United States (CIPP/US) and Europe (CIPP/E), and a Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM).
His practice is informed by prior government service in the privacy branch of the US Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs, where he oversaw federal agencies’ compliance with privacy requirements and risk management. He was also a Presidential Management Fellow at the US Department of Health and Human Services, where he worked on a range of data governance and evidence-based policymaking issues.
Before joining Cooley, Nate served as a law clerk to Judge John Z. Lee of the US Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. He holds a master in public policy from the Harvard Kennedy School and a BS in brain and cognitive sciences from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
