About Mikhaila

Mikhaila represents clients in complex civil litigations, government investigations and appeals, as well as before Congress. She also maintains an active pro bono practice. Before Cooley, she completed a legal fellowship at a public interest law firm where she focused on environmental law, practicing in federal appeals courts and at the US Supreme Court.

Mikhaila’s representative experience includes:

  • Representing a group of retired admirals, generals and former secretaries of the US Army, Navy and Air Force in an amicus curiae brief on executive power, national security and the rule of law in the Supreme Court
  • Representing the Environmental Defense Fund in an amicus curiae brief on a critical matter of administrative law and judicial review in the Supreme Court*

During law school, Mikhaila served as an executive editor for the Harvard Environmental Law Review and completed internships at the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office and a local public defender’s office. She also worked as a research assistant for professor Richard Lazarus, professor Jack Goldsmith and Dahlia Lithwick of Slate. She was awarded Dean’s Scholar Prizes in Federal Courts; Environmental Law and Policy Clinic; Legal Research and Writing; and Framing, Narrative, and Supreme Court Jurisprudence.

Before law school, Mikhaila worked in national security policy and analysis, first on the staff of US Sen. Susan M. Collins and then as an editor at Lawfare, a national security legal publication associated with the Brookings Institution. Her writing has appeared in Lawfare and The Atlantic.
