About Mikhaila
Mikhaila represents clients in high-stakes disputes, with a focus on complex trial and appellate litigation, as well as government and internal investigations. She draws on her experience in government, journalism and law to strategically advance client interests and maintains an active pro bono practice.
Before joining Cooley, she clerked for Judge Victor A. Bolden and Judge Jeffrey A. Meyer of the US District Court for the District of Connecticut. Mikhaila earned her JD from Harvard Law School, where she completed clinical internships at the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office (Environmental Protection Division), the Harvard Health Law and Policy Clinic (where she focused on transgender rights), and a local public defender’s office. She also served as an executive editor of the Harvard Environmental Law Review and a research assistant to professor Richard Lazarus, professor Jack Goldsmith and Dahlia Lithwick. During law school, she received Dean’s Scholar Prizes in Federal Courts and the Federal System; Environmental Law and Policy Clinic; and Framing, Narrative, and Supreme Court Jurisprudence.
Before law school, she worked as an associate editor for Lawfare Media and the Brookings Institution and wrote on national security law for Lawfare and The Atlantic. She also served on the staff of a US senator with a policy portfolio that included foreign affairs, national security and trade.
