About Mike

Michael (Mike) focuses his practice on strategic patent counseling, as well as patent drafting and prosecution, for innovative clients in the mechanical, electrical and computer science fields. He has significant experience counseling startups and early-stage companies on how best to maximize their resources while executing a sound patent strategy. Mike also has counseled numerous clients on freedom-to-operate and patentability analyses, patent validity and infringement, and licensing matters.

Mike’s technical knowledge includes a wide range of technologies with a focus on the medical technology industry. Mike has extensive experience with biomedical devices, including fluid transfer devices, drug delivery devices, surgical devices, implantable therapeutic/treatment devices, prosthetic heart valves, rehabilitation devices, wearables, imaging and noninvasive coronary analysis. His experience also extends to a broad range of other technologies, including robotics and semi-autonomous devices, electrical and computer technologies, and clean energy technologies such as wind turbines, hybrid and fuel cell-powered vehicles, clean rail, carbon sequestration and carbon offset credit generation, and grid-scale energy storage.

Before joining Cooley, Mike was a mechanical engineer at an ambulance manufacturer in Florida, where he worked on computer-aided design, mechanical and manufacturing engineering, and product and process development.
