About Luke

Luke focuses his practice on patent preparation and patent prosecution. He is equipped with a diverse set of knowledge and hands-on engineering experience in the fields of materials science, civil engineering, chemistry, optics, metrology and software development.

Luke’s graduate research focused on developing a method to determine the materials properties of the lepidopteran proboscis using a combination of image analysis and theoretical modeling. After receiving his master’s degree, Luke worked in various engineering roles, where he developed a fabrication process for semiconductor substrates, characterized optical properties of various crystals and thin-film coatings, designed thin-film coatings for laser optics and ran a flux crystal growth process.

Before joining Cooley, Luke worked as a patent agent in the intellectual property department of a large chemical company. He performed freedom-to-operate studies and competitor analyses and prepared and prosecuted patent applications related to sustainable ink, pigment and coating compositions.
