About Kayla

Combining deep scientific knowledge with practical IP strategy, Kayla works closely with innovators to protect complex biological and therapeutic inventions from discovery through commercialization.

Kayla focuses her practice on patent counseling and prosecution in the life sciences sector, advising companies on strategic patent portfolio development from early growth through commercialization. Her experience includes drafting and prosecuting patent applications, conducting IP due diligence, performing landscape and freedom-to-operate analyses, and supporting a range of biotechnology innovations, including immunotherapies, gene therapies and viral delivery systems.

Before joining Cooley, Kayla served as a patent agent with several leading patent counseling groups. She earned her PhD in neuroscience from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, where her research examined the developmental and cellular mechanisms underlying neural function and disease.
