About Joseph

Joseph Lockinger’s practice focuses on employment counseling and litigation. As a litigator, he has substantial experience defending clients in state and federal courts and representing clients at administrative tribunals. When counseling clients, he assists with everyday employment related issues or decisions, such as the decision to hire, fire or discipline an employee, as well with more complex concerns, such as protecting trade secrets and avoiding unfair competition.

Joseph also regularly advises clients facing allegations and charges of unlawful conduct (such as discrimination, hostile work environment, harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, or wage and hour violations) and he uses his extensive employment litigation experience to develop effective defense strategies for any claims asserted against clients. He has litigated cases in the US District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, the Supreme Court of the State of New York, the New York State Division of Human Rights, the New York City Commission on Human Right and the National Labor Relations Board.

Prior to joining Cooley, Joseph was an associate in a New York based law firm, where he served as the primary litigation attorney for the firm’s labor and employment group. Upon graduation from the University of Virginia School of Law, Joseph worked as an assistant corporation counsel in the labor and employment division of the New York City Law Department. At the law department, Joseph represented the City of New York in a broad range of employment litigation matters, ranging from single plaintiff discrimination cases to complex federal class actions.

While attending law school at the University of Virginia School of Law, Joseph was on the management board for the Virginia Journal of International Law and took part in the Employment Law Clinic. Prior to practicing law, Joseph served in the US Marine Corps.
