John Lavoie

Jack is partner in charge of Cooley's Reston office and former head of the firm's infrastructure, energy and real estate practice group. Recognized by Chambers USA and The Legal 500 US, his practice focuses on complex real estate transactions, with an emphasis on the acquisition, disposition, development, leasing and financing of commercial real estate, including office, industrial, retail, data center, life sciences and technology-driven properties. He regularly represents landlords, tenants, lenders and borrowers in significant transactions throughout the Washington, DC, metropolitan area and the mid-Atlantic region, including major lease transactions, data center leasing and development projects, and corporate headquarters matters.

Jack has managed the real estate aspects of numerous data center and digital infrastructure projects, as well as clean and renewable energy developments, including wind and solar energy facilities and related installations. Before joining Cooley, he was a partner and member of the executive committee at a midsize US law firm. Prior to practicing law, he was a senior associate with The Staubach Company, where he managed site identification and lease negotiations for major clients throughout the mid-Atlantic region.

Jack also serves as general counsel to the Commercial Real Estate Development Association (CREDA), Northern Virginia (formerly known as National Association of Industrial and Office Parks).
