Jessie Simpson LaGoy

Jessie Simpson LaGoy represents public and private companies and individuals in a wide variety of complex litigation matters and disputes. She has successfully defended numerous class actions in federal and state court and has represented clients in claims involving breach of contract, securities violations, fraud, privacy violations and unfair competition. She also has substantial experience representing clients in investigations by the Securities and Exchange Commission and Department of Justice. Her clients include innovators and investors in a variety of industries such as social media, blockchain technology, digital analytics, life sciences, medical devices, human resources and retail. Jessie also maintains a robust pro bono practice and has represented clients in asylum, civil rights and criminal proceedings.

Representative matters include:

• On behalf of a dozen clients, including Costco, Gap and Edward Jones, securing dismissal of class action privacy claims alleging a novel theory of Florida’s wiretap law
• Securing victory for Oculus in a jury trial in the Northern District of California involving breach of contract claims
• Obtaining a first-of-its kind class action settlement in a case alleging that a cryptocurrency fundraiser constituted an illegal offering of securities.
• Obtaining dismissals of securities class action claims on behalf of two life sciences companies
• Securing a favorable settlement with the Securities and Exchange Commission on behalf of a unicorn startup technology company
