James Linfield

Jim’s entire career has been focused on working with entrepreneurs and the investors who back them. He represents public and private technology companies and venture capital and private equity funds in public and private financings, mergers and acquisitions and strategic alliances.

Jim has deep experience across a wide spectrum of industries, including biotechnology, medical devices, information technology and services, clean technologies and natural and organic products.

Jim has been constantly recognized as a leading lawyer by Chambers USA and Best Lawyers in America in the categories of Corporate Law, Venture Capital Law, Securities Regulation; Securities/Capital Markets Law, Mergers and Acquisitions and Leveraged Buyouts and Private Equity Law.

Prior to joining Cooley, Jim worked in the biotechnology industry for two and a half years as chief financial officer and general counsel of Somatogen, Inc. where he helped lead the company to a successful initial public offering. From 1980 to 1990, he was with the Denver law firm of Davis Graham & Stubbs, for the last five years as a partner.

Jim is actively involved with the University of Colorado. He has served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the University of Colorado Foundation. He serves on the Advisory Board of the BioFrontiers Institute. He helped found and is a current executive committee member of the Colorado Cleantech Industry Association. He is also on the Board of Directors of the Fitzsimons Innovations.

Jim is a native of Bozeman, Montana, and has lived most of his life in Colorado.
