About Helen

Helen Luu represents employers in all aspects of employment counseling and litigation, such as advising on compliance with federal and state employment statutes, reviewing and developing personnel practices and procedures, conducting internal workplace investigations, drafting employment-related agreements, and performing due diligence on mergers and acquisitions. As part of her litigation practice, Helen has defended employers in federal and state courts, arbitration proceedings, as well as before administrative agencies on a variety of employment claims.

Helen maintains an active pro bono practice, with an emphasis on employment and immigration matters. She has represented a Central American woman and her two young daughters at their asylum evidentiary hearing in which she successfully obtained asylum on behalf of her clients.

While at the University of California Hastings College of the Law, she served as a judicial extern for the Honorable Edward M. Chen in the Northern District of California and student counsel with the Hastings Appellate Project, where she briefed and argued a pro bono case before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. She also successfully represented clients before the Social Security Administration and criminal court through the UC Hastings Civil Justice Clinic. Helen was active in Hastings Moot Court as both a competitor and student coach. As a competitor, her team was the Regional Champion and National Quarterfinalist at the Thomas Tang National Moot Court Competition. She was also the senior notes editor for the Hastings Constitutional Law Quarterly and authored the note "Alive Not Dead: The Revival of Redevelopment Post Matosantos," 41 Hastings Const.L.Q.959 (2014).

Helen is a recipient of the CALI Excellence for the Future and Witkin Top Student awards in Civil Procedure and received special recognition at graduation for Outstanding Achievement in Pro Bono.
