About Grant

Grant advises government contractors and investors in M&A and venture capital transactions. His clients include private equity, venture capital and corporate venture capital investors, founders and owners of small and large businesses engaged in the defense, aerospace and national security arenas. Grant’s clients repeatedly turn to him for help in assessing and resolving their most complex, high-stakes – and often sensitive – transactional and regulatory concerns.

Grant has successfully guided companies through complicated issues relating to government contract transactions, negotiations, investigations, disputes, compliance and impacts to national security. He has significant experience representing early-stage companies, as well as sophisticated, publicly traded buyers and sellers, in all aspects related to their government businesses.

As a former military pilot and foreign policy adviser, Grant brings an especially valuable perspective when advising clients on US Department of Defense (DoD) and civilian agency regulatory compliance, including national security concerns related to cybersecurity and safeguarding classified information.

Prior to practicing law, Grant served as a search-and-rescue helicopter pilot in the US Navy and a diplomatic negotiator at a DoD agency. He currently serves as a judge advocate in the Navy Reserve. Before joining Cooley, Grant was a member of the government contracts and aviation practice groups at Jenner & Block in Washington, DC.
