About Fumin
Fumin focuses his practice on developing and implementing worldwide patent strategies for biotechnology companies. He is experienced in drafting and prosecuting patent applications, performing competitive landscape and freedom-to-operate analyses, and supporting IP diligence. He also has significant technical knowledge in protein engineering, antibodies therapeutics and synthetic biology.
Before joining Cooley, Fumin had years of experience in technology transfer and commercialization. He was also a co-founder of a biotech startup, which received a National Institutes of Health Small Business Innovation Research award for commercializing an early-stage drug screening technology.
Fumin holds a PhD in biochemistry and molecular biophysics from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, with research focused on biochemical and structural characterization of receptor tyrosine kinases and cancer biology. Fumin has co-authored multiple publications in scientific journals, including Science, Nature and Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS).
