About Erik

Erik focuses his practice on privacy and cybersecurity-related litigation and regulatory enforcement actions. He also has experience partnering with clients to mitigate litigation and enforcement risks through practical, strategic compliance planning. Erik has worked with clients across industries, with a particular focus on the life sciences, healthcare, social media and edtech sectors.

Before joining Cooley, Erik clerked for US District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers of the US District Court for the Northern District of California.

Erik previously worked for another international law firm, where his practice included US and international regulatory compliance counseling, advising on complex transactions and agreements involving novel privacy and cybersecurity issues, and incident response and remediation. He also maintained an active pro bono practice – including co-leading the firm’s work with a national LGBTQ organization, counseling asylum applicants and representing a survivor of domestic partner violence in DC Superior Court.

Erik first cultivated an interest in data privacy and cybersecurity while a student at the University of Pennsylvania School of Law. There, he conducted research on algorithmic governance as an affiliate of the Penn Program on Regulation. He also honed a keen interest in and awareness of the policymaking process, both as a law clerk for the US Senate Judiciary Committee and as editor in chief of Penn’s Journal of Law & Public Affairs.

Erik’s thought leadership in the areas of privacy, artificial intelligence, public policy and legal theory has been featured in leading law reviews, including the Administrative Law Review Accord and the Washington University Law Review, among others.

Prior to his career in law, Erik worked for three years in Washington, DC, as a policy, communications and fundraising strategist.
