About Emily

Emily has more than 20 years of experience representing life sciences companies in a broad range of complex commercial and business development matters. Before joining Cooley, she was vice president at Amgen, an American multinational biopharmaceutical company in Thousand Oaks, California, where she focused on law and compliance.

During her time at Amgen, Emily led the legal team responsible for all strategic transactions worldwide, including mergers and acquisitions, collaborations, joint ventures, venture capital investments, in- and out-licensing, supply arrangements, alliance management, and related securities filings. She also served as lead counsel on multiple transformative deals for the company, including its:

  • $13.4 billion acquisition of Otezla
  • $415 million acquisition of deCODE Genetics
  • Collaboration with BeiGene (oncology)
  • Collaboration with Novartis (neuroscience)
  • Collaboration with Servier (cardiovascular)
  • Spinout of Atara Biotherapeutics

Emily began her legal career at a US-based international law firm in New York and San Francisco, where her practice focused on life sciences collaborations, licensing and commercial agreements, as well as other corporate matters.
