About Chris
Chris Montgomery leads Cooley’s business development efforts in the San Diego office. His 20+ years of leadership experience spans from early stage technology ventures to multinationals media corporations. Chris assists clients with their funding strategies and business formation.
Prior to joining Cooley, Chris was CEO of a SaaS mobile application platform based in San Diego. Recently, he was part of a team that developed a machine learning audio technology that was sold to Amazon. Over his career, he has held senior roles at EMI, Sony, Bertelsmann and MP3.com. He was a key member of the MP3.com team pre and post-IPO. Following the acquisition by Vivendi Universal, he served as CEO, MP3.com Europe.
Chris has been involved in a number of disruptive technologies including the launch of the first portable mp3 player, designing and launching the first on-demand music subscription service on the internet, machine-learning audio and video analysis tools, and live and interactive mobile program notes.
Chris was appointed Fellow of the University of Edinburgh in 2000 and since 2003 has been an honorary and visiting professor of Business. He currently serves on its International Advisory Board.
