About Brooke

Brooke Matney is an associate in the patent counseling & prosecution practice group and a member of Cooley's litigation department. Brooke focuses her practice on patent prosecution, counseling and portfolio development. Much of Brooke’s practice is concentrated on medical applications including, for example, drug and fluid delivery, surgical devices, ingestible electronic medication, robot and image guided surgery, radiation treatment, wearable devices and electronic prescription management. Brooke’s patent prosecution and counseling practice also includes a variety of other technological applications, including retail and consumer products, wireless communications and automotive technologies.

Prior to joining Cooley in 2014, Brooke was an Examiner at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office from 2009 to 2014 in Art Unit 3763, which examined patent applications directed toward medication delivery devices, catheters, and aspirators falling into Cooperative Patent Classification Subclass A61M: Devices For Introducing Media Into, Or Onto, The Body. Specifically, Brooke examined applications directed toward technologies such as injectors, balloon catheters, insulin pumps, electronic medicine and infusion devices.

Brooke also served as a detailee to the Patent Trial and Appeal Board in 2014, performing ex parte appeal file reviews and analysis under the supervision of an Administrative Patent Judge.

Brooke earned her JD in 2017 from The Georgetown University Law Center. She served as Development Editor of the Georgetown Journal of International Law from 2015-2016. She earned her BS in Mechanical Engineering in 2008 from the University of Virginia.
