Austin Thind

Austin applies his technical experience in embedded software, machine learning, power electronics and electro-mechanical systems to advise clients on intellectual property matters.

Before joining Cooley, Austin spent several years developing advanced technologies for some of the world’s largest automotive companies. As a research engineer for Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, Michigan, Austin developed control algorithms for semi-active suspension systems. Austin also worked for PACCAR, a leading commercial truck manufacturer and parent company to Kenworth and Peterbilt, located in Mt. Vernon, Washington. There, Austin led ISO 26262 functional safety-compliant development of safety-critical features for autonomous and battery electric truck platforms, including steer-by-wire, brake-by-wire and battery management systems.

Austin also has a passion for teaching. He taught data structures and computer systems courses at Western Washington University, tutored inmates at Collins Bay Institution, a federal penitentiary, and led literacy and numeracy programs for children in remote First Nations communities in northern Canada.
