About Asako

Dr. Asako Kubota focuses on the drafting and prosecution of life sciences and biotechnology related patent applications, with a particular emphasis on small molecule pharmaceuticals.

Asako also assists in invalidity/non-infringement, freedom to operate and patentability analyses and opinions. She works with clients on a range of technical areas, including novel small molecules for various medicinal indications, organic and organometallic reactions and process development routes, pharmaceutical formulations, fertilizer compositions, and agricultural materials.

Prior to joining Cooley, Asako was an associate scientist at Dow AgroSciences (now Corteva Agriscience) in Indianapolis, Indiana working on discovery research for novel insecticides and fungicides. She gained substantial technical knowledge in crop management science with a focus on technology and science involving insecticides, fungicides, herbicides and the process involved in developing a new pesticide, including research, biological assays, greenhouse testing, field testing and formulations.

While obtaining her PhD from the University of Michigan in Professor Melanie Sanford's laboratory, Asako's doctoral research focused on palladium-catalyzed oxidative functionalization reactions.
