Alex Deitz
About Alex
Alex represents clients in complex litigation and government-facing matters, including high-stakes congressional inquiries. She guides clients from early investigation through discovery, trial and appeal in both state and federal courts.
Before joining Cooley, Alex worked as a deputy assistant city attorney in the Portland City Attorney’s Office, where she handled civil rights, employment and labor, and governmental immunity matters. She served as lead trial counsel in federal jury trials, took and defended depositions, examined fact and expert witnesses, and argued motions in trial and appellate courts. She also taught training sessions for other lawyers on legal protections available to government employees and agencies.
Alex previously served as a legislative aide in the US Senate for the Senate Judiciary Committee, where she was investigative staff on congressional investigations, evaluated judicial nominations and staffed senators during Senate Judiciary Committee hearings. She also served as a legislative aide in a personal Senate office, working on the Judiciary portfolio, where she helped draft and secure passage of multiple federal laws.
Alex was selected as an honors attorney in the US Department of Justice Civil Division before the program was discontinued at the start of the new administration.
Outside of work, Alex enjoys ceramics, long-distance hiking and all things PNW.
