Litigator of the Week: Shout-Out
A Cooley team, led by partner Daniel Grooms, special counsel Heather Sawyer and associate Alex Kasner, earned a shout-out on The American Lawyer’s Litigation Daily Litigator of the Week Runners-Up and Shout-Outs list for their representation of Alabama death row inmate Michael Bragg Woolf in a case referred to the firm by the Equal Justice Initiative. Judge Jay York found that Woolf is intellectually disabled and therefore ineligible for the death penalty under the Eighth and 14th amendments and Alabama state law.
The team also included associates Palmer Quamme, Reece Trevor and Tamara Chin Loy, with additional support from paralegal specialist Elizabeth Rice, senior paralegal Nick Girard, case assistant Brooke Lumer, senior trial presentation technology specialist Derek Cole, TrialTech Support contractor John Catlin, and senior trial and litigation services coordinator Chris St. Martin. Associates Tara Levens and Jenny Portis provided additional posttrial briefing assistance.
