March 19, 2024

Beijing, Hong Kong and Shanghai – March 19, 2024 – Cooley was honored for its work on three Deals of the Year in 2023 by China Business Law Journal (CBLJ). The publication noted the firm for deals across three practice areas – including equity capital markets, private equity financing, and life sciences partnering and licensing. Each year, CBLJ recognizes the best Chinese and international law firms in various practice area categories for the Chinese market, as well as the year’s strongest deals.

In the equity capital markets space, Cooley was noted for its work representing Bitdeer Technologies, a world-leading technology company for the cryptocurrency mining community, in its business combination with Blue Safari, a special purpose acquisition company.

The firm’s private equity practice represented SJ Semiconductor Corporation, a semiconductor foundry, in its $340 million Series C+ financing, which brought the company to a valuation close to $2 billion.

Finally, the firm’s life sciences partnering and licensing practice was honored by the publication based on its representation of Hengrui, a global pharmaceutical company focused on scientific and technological innovation, in its strategic collaboration and license agreement with Merck. The agreement included an upfront payment of 160 million euros and potential milestone payments of up to 1.4 billion euros, with up to double-digit royalty payments.

Cooley’s Beijing, Hong Kong and Shanghai offices represent a growing number of China’s most innovative and dynamic tech and life sciences companies, advising from formation through financings and exits. The in-depth subject matter knowledge and transactional prowess of the teams enable the firm to handle a raft of corporate, finance, M&A and capital markets work for international and China-based high-tech and life sciences entities engaged in inbound and outbound endeavors.
