Cholesgen Enters Discovery Collaboration, Licensing Option Agreement With AstraZeneca

June 16, 2023

Shanghai – June 16, 2023 – Cooley advised Cholesgen, a biopharmaceutical company focusing on metabolic diseases, on its three-year research collaboration and licensing agreement with AstraZeneca. Partner Christina Zhang led the Cooley team advising Cholesgen.

The collaboration aims to validate genetic drug targets and develop therapeutic molecules into clinical development for hypercholesterolemia. Cholesgen is entitled to receive an initial payment, as well as a predefined license package for each qualified drug candidate nominated by AstraZeneca to progress into clinical development. This transaction establishes a new collaboration model with a Chinese biotech firm, starting from targets and mechanisms originally identified by Chinese researchers.

Cholesgen is a pioneer in biomedical research, innovative target identification and first-in-class drug discovery in the field of cholesterol-related diseases, such as hyperlipidemia, obesity, atherosclerosis and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis.
