Four Cooley Lawyers Recognized Among Top Professionals in San Diego
San Diego – November 18, 2022 – Four Cooley lawyers have been named on the San Diego Business Journal’s SD 500 list, which highlights the most influential people in San Diego who are making a significant impact on the business community and the community at large.
The publication recognized Michael Attanasio, partner in charge of Cooley’s San Diego office and chair of the firm’s global litigation department, who was noted for his high-profile trial work.
Additionally, Barbara Borden, co-chair of Cooley’s M&A practice, was noted for representing San Diego’s Turning Point Therapeutics in its $4.1 billion sale to Bristol Myers Squibb, as well as Horizon Therapeutics in its $3 billion acquisition of Viela Bio.
Senior counsel Wainwright Fishburn was noted for his past service as global chair of the firm’s digital health group, his current position as chair of the Critical Path Institute, and his role as a founding partner of the firm’s San Diego office.
Lastly, partner Steven Strauss was described as a “first chair trial lawyer” and noted for “decades of successful trial verdicts and settlements in excess of $10 billion,” including his victory representing Chicago Title in ongoing litigation arising from a $400 million Ponzi scheme.
These recognitions follow on the heels of Cooley’s San Diego office’s relocation to a state-of-the-art space in the heart of the city’s life sciences community – a move that aligns with the firm’s focus on designing workspaces that deploy next-generation technology to foster collaboration and enhance the overall client experience.
Launched in 1992, the firm’s San Diego office has been a key driver of Cooley’s US and international growth, guiding clients’ businesses through their life cycle while protecting and defending them against bet-the-company litigation. The firm has worked with many of the area’s most innovative and high-growth companies, from formation to going public and beyond.
