Cooley Builds Antitrust Litigation Practice With Former DOJ Hire in Washington, DC

Washington, DC – March 15, 2022 – Ethan Glass has joined Cooley’s Washington, DC, office as a partner in the firm’s global litigation department. Arriving from Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, where he served as chair of its antitrust investigations and government enforcement practice, Glass has extensive experience as a first-chair trial lawyer, a lead government investigator and a manager of government investigations. He bridges both litigation and agency work, and represents clients in all types of competition matters – from mergers to criminal and civil conduct – before the courts and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), US Department of Justice (DOJ) and state attorneys general.

“We are thrilled to welcome Ethan to our growing litigation team as we continue to build out our elite, next-generation trial practice,” said Michael Attanasio, chair of Cooley’s global litigation department. “Ethan brings a proven track record as a first-chair advocate in high-stakes matters, and his arrival to Cooley reflects our strategic investment in building out our antitrust litigation and enforcement capability for our clients facing the emerging threat of competitionrelated investigations and litigation, as well as merger challenges opposite the FTC and DOJ.”

“Ethan is an immensely talented first-chair antitrust litigator, and we are pleased to have him join Cooley to build upon our strong, full-service antitrust capabilities and grow the practice by leading our representation of clients in antitrust litigation,” said Jacqueline Grise, partner and chair of Cooley’s antitrust & competition practice group. “His impressive background will strengthen our ability to meet current and future market demand for defending clients in disputes before the courts and antitrust agencies."

Glass has deep experience representing sophisticated clients in government investigations, civil and criminal litigation, and agency proceedings. He has tried cases in federal and state courts, and is highly recognized for his litigation and merger review prowess, having taken the lead in highly significant recent antitrust matters. Glass previously served in the DOJ’s Antitrust Division, first as a trial attorney, then as an assistant chief. During his tenure at the DOJ, he led investigation, litigation and trial teams on various large-scale, high-profile antitrust matters. In government and private practice, Glass has led matters in all major industries, including technology, life sciences, major appliances, credit cards, financial exchanges, motion pictures, music, newspapers, sports and recreation, and real estate.

“I’m excited to join the remarkable talent at Cooley and further expand the firm’s capabilities in an era of heightened antitrust scrutiny and enforcement,” Glass said. “Cooley is the ideal platform to build a destination litigation practice for antitrust and competition matters. I look forward to working with my new colleagues across the firm to serve and grow Cooley’s extensive and impressive client base.”

Glass is the latest arrival to enhance Cooley’s cross-disciplinary capabilities, following the recent addition of the financial services litigation and enforcement team led by Michelle Rogers, Katherine Katz and Joshua Kotin. Distinguished by top industry publications for its preeminent global litigation department and antitrust practice, Cooley remains the go-to firm for the world’s most dynamic companies as they navigate the ever-increasing complexities of the legal and regulatory landscape. The firm’s antitrust litigation practice is led by proven trial lawyers skilled at handling complex civil and criminal cases and government investigations.
