Cooley – Transatlantic Litigation Team of the Year
London – June 18, 2019 – Continuing its extraordinary run of success in London, Cooley was named Litigation Team of the Year at the Transatlantic Legal Awards for its defense of biopharmaceutical company IQVIA against a $330 million breach of contract and unfair business practices lawsuit. The complex case involved a Swiss plaintiff, an English defendant and lengthy litigation in both US and UK courts. Partners Mike Klisch, Laurence Harris and Bob Cahill led the cross-Atlantic team. The annual awards ceremony, which highlights global law firm accomplishments, is jointly hosted by Legal Week, The American Lawyer and Corporate Counsel.
“To achieve high praise for our cross-border litigation practice is very special,” said Justin Stock, managing partner of Cooley’s London office. “Since launching in London in 2015, we’ve been recruiting the best talent in the market, so it’s immensely gratifying to see these transatlantic relationships and teams come together to create success for our clients.”
“We are enormously proud that Cooley’s culture of advocacy now stretches from California to the East Coast to Europe, and it’s wonderful to see our team’s momentum and courtroom skills recognized across the world,” said Mike Attanasio, chair of the firm’s global litigation department.
The Transatlantic Legal Awards recognize law firms for excellence in handling transatlantic matters across the key areas of corporate, finance and disputes, as well as highlighting in-house leaders and law firm innovation, commitment to pro bono and outstanding transatlantic strategy.
Cooley’s London office has built robust practices, including corporate/M&A, finance, venture capital & private equity, capital markets, technology transactions, insurance, litigation, IP, product compliance & liability, white collar, tax, employment, competition and cyber/data/privacy, among others. In less than three years, the UK office grew by more than 50% in headcount. Last year, Cooley was named Capital Markets Team of the Year at the Transatlantic Legal Awards. Building on the firm’s success in the UK, Cooley launched an office in Brussels earlier this year – the firm’s first entry into continental Europe.
