Prominent New York Trial Lawyer Further Strengthens Cooley’s Litigation Practice

August 16, 2018

New York – August 16, 2018 – Trial lawyer and commercial litigator Philip Bowman is joining Cooley’s New York office. He arrives from Boies Schiller Flexner, where he was a partner. Bowman played a central role in many of the firm’s most substantial litigation cases over the past decade.

“Cooley’s New York litigation practice gains a powerful addition with the arrival of Phil Bowman,” said Mike Attanasio, chair of Cooley’s global litigation department. “Phil brings first-chair trial experience from high-profile cases and is widely known among many leading financial institutions. On the heels of the arrival of litigation partner Jonathan Kim, who is also based in New York, Cooley's East Coast momentum is unparalleled in the market today. I’m excited for what we all will achieve together.”

Bowman advocates for clients in state and federal courts at the trial and appellate levels throughout the US, as well as in arbitrations in domestic and international disputes. He has extensive experience representing financial institutions in securities, commodities, financial products and antitrust litigation. In addition, he has represented sports and entertainment clients in litigation and arbitration involving MLB, MLS and the America’s Cup.

“I will always value the years I spent at Boies Schiller where I leave behind many lifelong friends, and I am grateful to have had the opportunity to work alongside some of the very best trial lawyers in the country,” Bowman said. “But this was the perfect moment to join a global firm so well poised for future success and collaborative growth. I have watched Cooley’s New York and East Coast litigation growth with great interest and look forward to playing my part in adding to its success. I’ve known several of Cooley’s litigators over the years, and I anticipate us winning many battles together. Cooley has an exceptionally dynamic client base of major corporations and financial institutions well placed to succeed in the new economy.”

Earlier this year, The American Lawyer recognized Cooley’s exceptional litigation and trial practice with an honorable mention in its biennial Litigation Department of the Year contest. Other publications have also lauded the meteoric rise of Cooley’s litigation practice. BTI Consulting Group named Cooley a Litigation Powerhouse in five categories, and The Lawyer again recognized Cooley’s litigation growth and outstanding advocacy in its annual Global Litigation 50 report. Law360 has heralded Cooley as a “go-to” firm for its litigation work, ranking it among the elite US law firms on its Litigation Powerhouse list.
