Thomson Reuters Partners With Cooley to Launch Global Guide on Product Liability and Safety

Cooley partner Rod Freeman serving as general editor
July 23, 2018

London – July 23, 2018 – Thomson Reuters Practical Law has partnered with Cooley to launch a new Global Guide on Product Liability and Safety. Cooley partner Rod Freeman also serves as the general editor. The guide is an online resource allowing lawyers, risk managers and compliance professionals to obtain a reliable and practical overview on product liability and safety regimes around the world within a rapidly developing and increasingly risky landscape.

Leveraging its extensive network of thought leaders with deep-rooted experience and local insights, Cooley coordinated the production of the guide. It covers 32 countries.

“We were delighted when we were approached by Thomson Reuters to partner with them on this important project,” said Freeman. “We recognize the growing need for international companies to have access to reliable information and practical insights on product liability and product safety issues from experienced practitioners in various jurisdictions. Given the ever-evolving landscape, we will continue to develop the guide as an invaluable resource to help companies manage globally increasing risks.”

The chapters for each of the covered jurisdictions outline laws and regulations, requirements to establish liability, initiating litigation proceedings, thresholds for burden of proof, recent enforcement claims trends and more. Additionally, the authors note a variety of supplementary online resources. Among the contributors, Freeman and Cooley lawyers Sarah-Jane Dobson and Carol Roberts – who also played a pivotal role in the guide’s production – provide an overview of the EU product liability and product safety mandates.

Freeman, an experienced international products lawyer, was recently appointed by the European Commission to its newly-formed expert group on liability and new technologies. He is routinely ranked as a leading product litigation lawyer in major legal directories, where he is described as “the outstanding go-to specialist for product liability matters” and “without a shadow of a doubt the most knowledgeable product liability lawyer in the European space.” In January, The Lawyer has named Freeman to its annual Hot 100 list.
