Meal-Kit Startup Plated Sells to Albertsons

September 21, 2017

New York – September 21, 2017 – Cooley advised Plated on its sale to Albertsons. It is the first meal delivery company to be acquired by a traditional grocer.

According to the companies, Plated will operate as a subsidiary of Albertsons. In addition to its delivery subscription service, Plated meals will be available for pickup in Albertsons stores, which also includes the Safeway chain.

“We no longer have to play the game of just spending money in the media to go out and reach folks,” said Josh Hix, CEO of Plated, in The Wall Street Journal. “It uniquely positions us in the market.”

Plated, which is based in New York, is a technology company committed to making it easy to eat well. Built on data and supply chain excellence, it delivers a better dinner experience for its customers, providing exceptional recipes, premium ingredients and choice.

Partner Meredith Beuchaw and partner and co-chair of firm’s M&A group Jamie Leigh led the Cooley team advising Plated.
