April 10, 2017

San Diego – April 10, 2017 – Cooley litigation partner Steve Strauss has been inducted as a Fellow into the prestigious International Academy of Trial Lawyers (IATL) in a ceremony that took place on April 8 as part of the Academy’s annual meeting, in San Diego. Strauss, a first chair trial lawyer with 35 years of experience achieving trial verdicts and settlements in excess of $10 billion, will be among just 500 trial lawyers worldwide to have this exclusive, invitation-only IATL Fellowship.

“I am honored to be inducted as a Fellow into this prestigious organization and humbled to be among many of the global profession’s most accomplished trial lawyers,” Strauss said.

IATL is a group of elite trial lawyers representing prosecutors, plaintiffs and defense lawyers in criminal and civil litigation. The group includes lawyers from more than 30 countries who have achieved a career of excellence by demonstrating exceptional skill and ability in jury trials and appellate practice. Trial lawyers are invited to become Fellows only after an extremely careful vetting process.

“Steve is one of the country's most sought-out trial lawyers for complex commercial litigation and we are delighted that he has received this special honor in recognition of his innumerable achievements,” said Michael Attanasio, chair of Cooley's global litigation department. “In becoming an IATL Fellow, he is rightly joining the best of the best in his field.”

Among his many accolades, Strauss has been named an Energy and Environment Trailblazer by The National Law Journal, a Top IP Lawyer and Top Development Lawyer by the Daily Journal and was featured by the Financial Times in a special feature on Innovative Lawyers.

Strauss is a member of American Board of Trial Advocates, California Trial Lawyers' Association, San Diego Trial Lawyers Association, San Diego Bar Association and the American Business Trial Lawyers Association. He received his undergraduate education in literature and political science, magna cum laude, from Claremont McKenna College in 1978, and law degree from University of California, Los Angeles in 1981, where he was a member and associate editor of the UCLA Law Review. Strauss is admitted to practice in the California and Federal courts as well as other jurisdictions. He is based in Cooley's San Diego office.
