August 1, 2016

Boston – August 1, 2016 – Cooley is further bolstering its litigation practice with the arrival of Luke Cadigan from K&L Gates. Cadigan focuses on complex securities enforcement matters, internal investigations and regulatory compliance. He joins as a partner in Cooley's Boston office.

"We are thrilled to add another first-chair trial lawyer to our litigation team," said Mike Attanasio, chair of Cooley's global litigation department. "With his outstanding record of government service at the SEC and his private practice success, Luke will be an invaluable resource to our clients in complex litigation matters and in their dealings with regulatory agencies. Luke is a tremendous addition to our culture of trial advocacy and client service."

Prior to K&L Gates, Cadigan worked for nine years as a highly successful trial lawyer and leader in the Securities Exchange Commission's Boston office. As lead counsel, he tried and won several complex matters in federal court and the SEC's administrative forum, relating to insider trading, fraud and pay-to-play schemes. From there he became an assistant director of the SEC's enforcement division, also serving in its Foreign Corrupt Practices Act Unit.

"Cooley is home to one of the preeminent securities litigation groups in the country," Cadigan said. "This is an exceptional opportunity to add my securities enforcement practice to an impressive group of trial lawyers and help the firm and its clients achieve even greater success."

Cooley's securities litigation group has deep experience in federal and state securities law including advising on securities class actions, shareholder derivative actions, corporate control contests and M&A litigation. According to Thomson Reuters Monitor Suite, Cooley was the most active securities litigation defense firm in the US in 2015. Cooley also defended more pharmaceutical companies in securities class actions filed over the past five years than any other law firm.

Cadigan received his BA from Amherst College and his JD from Boston College Law School. After graduation, Cadigan was a law clerk for Judge Edward F. Harrington of the US District Court in Massachusetts. In addition to his trial work, Cadigan frequently speaks on securities enforcement and regulatory issues.
