Cooley partner Sonia Nath moderated a fireside chat focusing on regulatory and legislative progress and roadblocks – and how this might impact consumer perception and acceptance around biotechnology for food. The fireside chat examined the following questions:

  • With recent regulatory approvals for cultivated products in the US and Israel, paired with moves to ban in Italy and some US states, what impacts does this have for novel foods working to scale and commercialize?
  • What can be learned from the successful regulatory approvals, and where across the globe might we see the next approvals?
  • What does the proposed legislation mean for biotechnology for food, and how does this shape consumer opinion?
  • How can the industry work to challenge legislation and steer public perception, and more importantly, how can the sector work more closely with regulatory and legislative bodies to improve understanding around food-tech?
