API Allyship Resource Kit
Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, there has been a sharp increase in hate crimes targeting Asian and Pacific Islanders individuals. Victims have spanned all ages, genders, races and sexual identities. According to a recent Stop AAPI Hate national report, 9.081 incidents occurred between March 2020 and June 2021. Both reported and unreported incidents include countless instances of verbal abuse, physical assaults and death.
Yet hate crimes against the API community are not new, and they have been historically underreported. Factors that have historically contributed to racism against the API community include discriminatory and exclusionary policies, the model minority myth and widespread stereotypes of API people.
To show support for the API community in and outside of the firm, Cooley’s Asian Pacific Islander Attorney and Business Professionals affinity groups have gathered various resources focused on ways allies can better understand and support the API community.
