Here's a novel concept –practical guidance on conflict minerals. Attached is a helpful white paper from the Conflict-Free Sourcing Initiative, "Reasonable Practices to Identify Sources of Conflict Minerals: Practical Guidance for Downstream Companies, August 2013." It is a guide for reporting companies to help identify the sources of conflict minerals in their supply chains. For example, one section provides advice on structuring supply chain transparency programs in light of the OECD guidance, the due diligence framework identified by the SEC. Basically, the white paper interprets the OECD process in a practical way that is helpful for "downstream" companies that are several tiers removed from the smelters and refiners. CFSI has scheduled a program for next week in DC. http://www.conflictfreesourcinginitiative.org/CFSIWorkshop12.htm
