Cooley Earns Top Score on HRC Foundation’s Corporate Equality Index

Firm receives top marks for seventh consecutive year
December 13, 2023

Palo Alto – December 13, 2023 – Cooley has again earned a score of 100 on the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation’s annual Corporate Equality Index (CEI), the nation’s foremost benchmarking survey and report measuring corporate policies and practices related to LGBTQ+ workplace equality.

The firm’s efforts in satisfying all the CEI’s criteria earned it the Equality 100 Award: Leader in LGBTQ+ Workplace Inclusion. This result marks the seventh year the firm has received top marks on the CEI metric.

“We are proud to be recognized on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s Corporate Equality Index,” said Heidi Erlacher, partner and chair of the firm’s LGBTQ+ Affinity Group. “HRC provides the leading benchmarking tool for evaluating a company’s LGBTQ+ workplace inclusion policies, serving employees, consumers and investors. While work remains to achieve full lived equality in the workplace, we have taken concrete steps to establish and implement comprehensive policies, benefits and practices that ensure greater equity for LGBTQ+ workers and their families.”

Cooley is dedicated to maintaining a workplace that values and celebrates differences. This commitment includes active and creative partnerships with clients and local and national law organizations that support people from underrepresented backgrounds, as well as diversity pipeline projects, law school diversity programs and community outreach.

“Our goal at the Human Rights Campaign Foundation is to work in a spirit of partnership with companies, providing educational resources and leading benchmarking, and collaborating on ways for businesses to support the LGBTQ+ community at a time when we face unprecedented legislative attacks, heightened anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric and physical violence,” said RaShawn Hawkins, senior director of the Workplace Equality Program at HRC Foundation.

Cooley is widely recognized for its diversity, equity and inclusion efforts by top industry organizations and publications – receiving the Women in Law Empowerment Forum’s US Gold Standard Certification for 12 consecutive years and being inducted into Seramount’s Hall of Fame after being recognized as a best law firm for women and diversity for the 12th time.
