Press Release

Cooley Recognized by Public Counsel for Pro Bono Efforts

Firm’s work helped childcare providers secure grant funding
November 3, 2022

Los Angeles – November 3, 2022 – Cooley was honored by Public Counsel’s Early Care & Education law unit, a division of the Community Development Project, based on the firm’s outstanding service to childcare providers for low-income families. A team of Cooley lawyers assisted 15 family childcare providers across Los Angeles County with applying for state funding to renovate their facilities. The providers received grants of up to $75,000 to improve their childcare spaces and the quality of care offered to young children.

The Cooley team provided pro bono legal services, including preparing and drafting applications, answering questions about budgeting and grant requirements, and gathering supporting documentation. Several members of the Cooley team continue to volunteer their time helping childcare providers in the program with other legal issues.

As the nation’s largest provider of pro bono legal services, Public Counsel strives to utilize an innovative legal model to promote justice, hope, and opportunity in low-income areas and communities of color in Los Angeles and across the US. Through civil rights litigation, community-building, advocacy and policy change, as well as wide-ranging direct legal services that annually help thousands of people experiencing poverty, Public Counsel fights to secure equal justice and opportunity for all.
