Cooley Earns Second Consecutive A Grade on Climate Change Scorecard
Palo Alto – August 2, 2022 – For the second consecutive year, Cooley earned an A on the Law Students for Climate Accountability’s (LSCA) 2022 Law Firm Climate Change Scorecard, as one of just two firms in the Vault 100 to earn the grade. Cooley avoided fossil fuel transactions entirely and worked on renewable energy transactions with a total value of $800 million.
The scorecard catalogs climate-related work of the Vault 100 top-ranked firms in the US for the past five years. The scores are based on the litigation, transactional and lobbying work each firm is doing – or not doing – on behalf of clients exacerbating climate change or benefitting the fossil fuel industry. The report calls on law firms to phase out work for the fossil fuel industry, and it seeks to support law students and lawyers who are concerned about the climate crisis.
Cooley is a member of the Law Firm Sustainability Network and the Legal Sustainability Alliance, both of which are committed to promoting the benefits of environmental sustainability and corporate social responsibility within their member firms and throughout the legal industry.
Founded in 2020, LSCA is a coalition of law students determined to hold the legal industry accountable for its role in the ongoing climate crisis. Law students around the US have ramped up pressure on law firms that continue to profit from the climate crisis.
