Cooley Expands Antitrust & Competition Practice in London

March 15, 2022

London – March 15, 2022 – Caroline Hobson has joined Cooley’s London office as a partner in the firm’s antitrust & competition practice group. Hobson advises on a wide range of EU and UK competition law and regulatory issues, as well as foreign investment control in the UK.

“Caroline is a well-known and highly regarded competition lawyer in London, and we are thrilled to have her join our growing practice,” said Jacqueline Grise, partner and chair of Cooley’s antitrust & competition practice group. “As we continue to see heightened antitrust and competition enforcement across the globe – particularly in the tech and life sciences sectors – Caroline’s experience and skills will strengthen and broaden our ability to achieve successful outcomes for our clients as they navigate large and complex cross-border M&A transactions.”

“We are pleased to have Caroline join Cooley and build upon our growing competition law capabilities in the European market,” said Alexander Israel, Brussels-based antitrust & competition partner. “Her impressive background will broaden our ability to meet current and future market demand.”

Hobson has defended numerous high-profile mergers before the UK Competition and Markets Authority and the European Commission, and has advised extensively on competition law risk management and compliance strategies. She also guides clients through competition investigations, sector inquiries and market investigations, and advises on broader regulatory issues, including public procurement. Hobson has experience in the life sciences, consumer products and financial services industries. She has been recognized by Chambers Global, Chambers Europe, Chambers UK and The Legal 500.

“I am excited to join the dynamic team at Cooley and to expand the firm’s antitrust & competition practice in the London market,” Hobson said. “I’ve been impressed by Cooley’s commitment to maintaining a diverse, inclusive and collaborative culture, and I look forward to contributing to the firm’s exceptional momentum.”

Hobson is the latest arrival to strengthen Cooley’s global antitrust & competition capabilities, following the recent addition of Ethan Glass in Washington, DC. Cooley’s antitrust & competition group is recognized as a top-tier antitrust practice by The Legal 500, Global Competition Review and Chambers USA. The team handles all aspects of antitrust and competition law matters – including counseling, M&A, government investigations and litigation – for organizations ranging from emerging companies to Fortune 500 corporations. Our experienced lawyers regularly steer clients through the regulatory review of bet-the-company transactions, government investigations and high-stakes litigation, with a focus on the high-tech and life sciences industries, while bringing a transatlantic perspective to craft the most efficient and effective strategy for each client.
