India-Based MPL Soars Toward Unicorn Status With Series D

Singapore – February 10, 2021 – Cooley advised Mobile Premier League, Asia’s largest esports and mobile gaming platform, on its US$95 million Series D financing round. Composite Capital and Moore Strategic Ventures led the round, with participation from Base Partners, RTP Global, SIG, Go-Ventures, Telstra Ventures, Founders Circle and Play Ventures. MPL has raised US$225.5 million since its inception in 2018. Partner Ferish Patel led the team advising MPL on the funding round.

MPL will use this fresh influx of funds to expand its esports portfolio, bolster its efforts to organize more such esports tournaments nationally and internationally at scale and accelerate its international expansion this year.

“The esports community in India is thriving, and we believe this is the perfect time to take Indian-made games to the world as well as help Indian gamers get recognized for their talent,” MPL co-founder and CEO Sai Srinivas said in a news release. 

MPL has more than 60 million users in India and 3.5 million in Indonesia and has worked with numerous game developers and on-boarded 70+ games on its platform. It employs more than 500 personnel and has offices in India, Indonesia and Singapore.
